Combined Analysis of Neutrino and Antineutrino Oscillations at T2K

Abstract: and comprise 7.482 × 10 20 protons on target in neutrino mode, which yielded in the far detector 32 e-like and 135 μ-like events, and 7.471 × 10 20 protons on target in antineutrino mode, which yielded 4 e-like and 66 μ-like events. Reactor measurements of sin 2 2θ 13 have been used as an additional constraint. The one-dimensional confidence interval at 90% for the phase δ CP spans the range (−3.13, −0.39) for normal mass ordering. The CP conservation hypothesis (δ CP ¼ 0, π) is excluded at 90% C.L.

“…In each panel, we see that T2K+T2HK (violet, solid line) has good sensitivity in the favourable region of δ CP , depending on the hierarchy. In fact for the the combination of δ CP = −90 • and NH which has been hinted at by recent T2K and NOνA results [59,60], this setup can achieve well over 5σ exclusion of the wrong hierarchy. 10 Including data from NOνA (blue, dashed line) improves the sensitivity further.…”

“…The unknown oscillation parameters are: (i) the neutrino mass hierarchy i.e whether m 3 > m 2 > m 1 leading to normal hierarchy (NH) or if m 3 < m 2 ≈ m 1 resulting in inverted hierarchy (IH); (ii) the octant of θ 23 -if θ 23 < 45 • it is said to be in the lower octant (LO) and if θ 23 > 45 • it is in the higher octant (HO); (iii) the CP phase δ CP . There are some indications of these quantities from the recent results of the ongoing experiments T2K [3] and NOνA [4,5]. However no clear conclusions have been reached yet.…”

“…Therefore, DUNE is expected to improve the bounds on ν 3 lifetime by at least one order of magnitude. 3 The right panel of figure 1 shows the discovery potential of a decaying neutrino at DUNE. To obtain this curve we generated the data taking a decaying ν 3 into account and fitted it with a theory for stable neutrinos.…”

“…a vanishing Dirac CP violation. Though this is still a possibility, it goes against the current trend of the data [4]. The most general structure of M ν that satisfies the CP µτ A condition (2.1) can be worked out to be…”

“…The atmospheric mixing angle is now pinned around its maximal value of π/4 and the solar mixing angle around the tri-bimaximal value while the reactor mixing angle is known to be significantly nonzero and close to 8 0 . The current trend of the data [4] suggests that the Dirac CP phase could be close to 3π/2 but a definitive statement is yet to emerge. A specific prediction on the value of the latter will be very welcome.…”
